Göppingen: WATZL Group acquires and refurbishes well-known furniture store Grimm

Göppingen, April 18, 2024 | In March 2024, the WATZL Group, formerly JW Investment Holding, acquired the well-known Albert Grimm furniture store in Göppingen with a plot area of around 2,600 sqm and is now planning a comprehensive refurbishment of the property. The existing building in a prime location will be renovated into a modern commercial building with a total rental area of 6,200 sqm by 2027. The refurbishment is designed to create a high-quality building that combines tradition and modernity.

Strong partnership for a shared vision
After an intensive search for a suitable partner for the project, Lars von Wichert joined forces with the WATZL Group, led by Jan Watzl. Together, they are planning to comprehensively modernize the energy efficiency of the property. In addition to energy optimization, the refurbishment also includes a renewal of the façade, “which will shine in new splendor”, says Lars von Wichert, managing partner of the Grimm furniture store, who is enthusiastic about the partnership project: “I am very pleased to have a strong investor and refurbishment expert like Jan Watzl at my side to lead our traditional and exclusive furniture store into the future.”

Jan Watzl, managing partner of the WATZL Group, emphasizes the importance of the joint project, particularly for the development of the region: “With the Albert Grimm furniture store and the neighboring Deutsche Bank building, we can now develop the entire area next to the Agnes shopping center and significantly upgrade it. Together with Mr. von Wichert, we are creating another architectural highlight for Göppingen and a top-class shopping experience.” The transaction was initiated by Fachpartner Gewerbeimmobilien GmbH (fgi), a subsidiary of Kreissparkasse Göppingen and Sparkasse Ulm, together with Mr. Lars von Wichert. The WATZL Group was advised by the lawyer Noerr from Munich and the tax consultants Trewitax from Singen.
